Former Rovers defender Kyle McFadzean is facing a spell on the sidelines after receiving “disappointing” news on his knee injury.

The 37-year-old left Ewood Park to join League Two club Chesterfield earlier this month, looking to prolong his career and get regular minutes on the pitch.

He made a couple of starts against Port Vale and Bromley but limped off against the latter on Tuesday night.

The Spireites were hoping it was just an impact injury but unfortunately McFadzean now faces a spell out of action.

"We have got some disappointing news on Kyle McFadzean who is going to be out for a period of time,” manager Paul Cook told The Derbyshire Times.

“It is another absolute hammer blow to us if I am honest with you. I think everyone can see the calmness and the quality he has brought to our team.

“I think he started the game against Port Vale a little shaky, home debut, little nervous, and then the rest of the game time has been exactly what we thought we would get.

“He is a top player and a top pro and he is going to be a big miss for us now because he was forming part of a new back four so we are going to have to adjust to that. Hopefully, he can still be back to help us still.”

McFadzean spent 12 months at Ewood Park and played an important role in the second half of last season as John Eustace’s men beat the drop.

However, he had only featured three times for Rovers this term and had to make the "difficult" decision to leave East Lancashire and join the Spireites.

Chesterfield currently sit ninth in the League Two table, six points off the play-off places, following their win against Bromley in midweek.

Cook's side are back in league action on Saturday afternoon when they head to Cheltenham Town.
